How Chowka Bara (7 House) plays

2–4 players, 6 pawns each, on a 7×7 board. Throw 6 cowrie shells.
Your throw = how many land mouth-up: 1–5 = that many. Four up = Chowka (4); all six up = Chakka (6); all six down = Baara (12). Any of these earns another throw — so does a capture. But if a throw leaves you no legal move, the turn passes — even on a bonus number.
Pawns move one at a time, anti-clockwise around the outer ring, by the full count. Every square holds just one pawn — except the safe ✕ squares, which any number of pawns may share. Landing on an opponent off a safe square sends it home.
The ✕ squares are safe: no captures happen on them, and any number of pawns may rest there together. Everywhere else, landing on an opponent sends it back to its yard.
You must capture at least once before any pawn may enter the inner tracks. To turn inside, a pawn needs the exact number to land on your inner-cross corner; if the throw would overshoot, the pawn waits there until you roll the right number (you move another pawn meanwhile). A lone pawn that lands inside stops there and can’t move at all.
Jodi (guty): when a second pawn lands on that same cross, the two become a pair. The jodi then moves as one — only on an even throw, going 1 square for every 2 rolled (2→1, 4→2, 6→3, 12→6) — spiralling inward to the centre. A jodi can’t be cut by a single pawn, but a moving jodi can capture an opponent it lands on inside (off the safe X squares).
You need the exact count to bring a jodi home to the centre.
Three bonus throws (Chowka/Chakka/Baara) in a row and the bonus is forfeited.
First to bring all six pawns home wins.
