How to Play Clabber (Klaberjass)
Win tricks, announce the best meld, and make sure the maker out-scores the defender.
1. Bidding
Round 1: accept the turned card’s suit as trump or pass. If both pass, round 2 lets players name any suit or pass. Four passes redeal.
2. Card strength
Trump ranks: J, 9, A, 10, K, Q, 8, 7. Non-trump ranks: A, 10, K, Q, J, 9, 8, 7.
3. Melds & Bella
Sequences score 20 for 3 cards or 50 for 4+. Only the highest sequence scores. King + Queen of trump is Bella: +20 when announced by play.
4. Trick rules
Follow the led suit if possible. If void, play trump if you can. When trump is led, over-trump if you can beat the current winning trump.
5. Scoring
Count tricks, melds, Bella, and +10 for the last trick. If the maker does not beat the defender, it is Bête and the defender gets all points.
6. Goal
First side to 500 wins. Reorder your hand by dragging cards; click a highlighted legal card once to select and again to play.
